Tungs Orthodox Acupuncture
The first known Chinese medical textbook is on acupuncture and it dated back about 400.BC., Acupuncture is an ancient Eastern form of medicine and it has been used in China, India, Tibet, Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea and Japan for the least 2000 years.
Most people are familiar with Acupuncture in the west by this stage and it has become an accepted complimentary addition for people wanting to stay healthy. Many use Acupuncture to avoid over reliance on medications for treatment and to resolve all types of injuries/common illnesses in a more natural manner working with the body.
It is most frequently used in the West to treat common complaints like joint pain, back pain, neck pain, fatigue, sinus issues, pregnancy, fertility, labour induction, postpartum recovery, fatigue etc.
Even though I have mentioned a few complaints above that are typically treated by Tungs Acupuncture in fact the list is much longer and it was used in the past as a full medical system to treat all illness’s and injuries.
For most people Acupuncture is just Acupuncture but there are a few different types that have developed in different areas of the world or even in China itself. I have been studying acupuncture for over 20 years and for me the most effective by far is Tungs Orthodox Acupuncture.
Tung’s Orthodox Acupuncture was based on generations of Tung’s family teaching and was further developed by the work of renowned Chinese acupuncturist, Master Tung (1915 – 1975).
There are a few things that makes Tung’s Acupuncture stand out and unique in comparison to Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture.
Firstly is its reputation for treating pain, musculoskeletal pain, joint issues and serious conditions is well known among Acupuncturists and is seen as a superior form of acupuncture for these types of conditions.
A distinct difference to TCM Acupuncture is the use of the minimum amount of needles as possible during a session, typically 8 needles are used but it can be as little as one needle thus making it a more comfortable experience for the patient.
Points are also used on the opposite side of the injury thus working in tandem with how the body functions bio-mechanically and with the nervous system.
The use of this principle of “less is more” is really applied so that the body can direct as much attention in the central nervous system towards one complaint only which will have a stronger effect in the resolution of the problem or injury the patient is suffering from.
Typically the amount of treatment required for resolution of an injury or illness is less due to the effectiveness of Tung’s Acupuncture points.
There are at least 500 Tung’s unique acupuncture points all based upon anatomical and topographical concepts. Most of these Tung’s acupuncture points are totally different from ordinary Chinese points. These Tung’s points are distributed more on the extremities rather than the torso area which is a very big difference from the locations of points in Traditional Acupuncture.
Typically a session of Tung’s Orthodox Acupuncture in clinic consists of an initial consultation fully exploring the issue/injury being presented. A full history of health and lifestyle including related symptoms in the past or presently being suffered swell as the current problem. Then the therapist will form a plan to treat the symptoms and root cause of the problem and select the points to be used talking the patient through the needling process.
Tungs Orthodox Acupuncture is typically gentle in application and most patients fall asleep easily during the session.
